Interested in becoming a teacher—or simply want to explore whether a career in education might be right for you? Getting started with the Nevada Teacher Academy College Pathway Program (TACPP) is easy.
Start by speaking with your school counselor and let them know you are interested in participating in TACPP. Your counselor can review your academic plan, explain the TACPP options available at your school, and help you determine which pathway best fits your goals.
You don’t have to wait until your senior year. Students are encouraged to begin exploring TACPP opportunities early in high school so they have time to plan their coursework and take advantage of available college-credit opportunities.
Students have different ways to complete the high school portion of TACPP. Your counselor can help you identify the pathway that works best with your schedule and graduation plan.
Depending on the pathway selected, students may complete Teaching and Training coursework or qualifying education dual-credit courses while in high school.
TACPP isn’t just about taking classes. Students also complete a Work-Based Learning experience that provides an opportunity to explore education in a real-world setting.
These experiences may allow students to observe educators, work with students, learn about different careers in education, and experience what happens inside schools from the perspective of a future education professional.
Your school will help you understand the Work-Based Learning requirements and available opportunities.
Once you begin the program, stay connected with your counselor and TACPP school staff. They can help you monitor your progress, complete the required coursework and Work-Based Learning experience, and prepare for the next step after high school.
TACPP is designed to connect what you are doing today with where you want to go tomorrow.
Visit your school counseling office and ask about TACPP.
Tell your counselor:
“I’m interested in the Nevada Teacher Academy College Pathway Program. How can I enroll in TACPP at our school?”
